Death Takes Faith

Do you have fear of death?
Are you unsure of your last breath?
Maybe you have heard, “Why fear?”
Especially when you know death is near;
Even when you know you are going to die,
It still takes faith to say life’s goodbye;
At no point along this struggling journey,
Can we live without faith to our gurney;
While we may know every truth of God’s word,
To think we could be perfect is clearly absurd;
The Bible might be in our minds memorized,
Everything still takes faith to be mesmerized;
As loved ones in Christ come to their end,
Our patience with fear will make a good friend;
To take that final step from this life,
Can still produce fearful mental strife;
We need the comfort of Jesus at every moment,
Remembering his death provided our atonement;
When we forget, our death will be scary,
Thinking more about ourselves, who they bury;
God gives us faith to see our eternal home,
Our hearts secure with no need to roam;
But we must believe Christ sufficient to our last,
We need God’s grace till the moment we passed;
Take heart then with those that falter,
Pray their fear with them like the Psalter;
Only a continuing awe of Christ’s grace,
Will give us peace as we see death in the face!
